Aberdeen Forward is an emerging social enterprise and charity with a strong focus on volunteer development and community capacity building.
We started with a waste and environmental focus and have broadened our remit to encompass all types of sustainable development projects with a particular focus on training provision for volunteers and the wider community.
Current projects include promotion of home composting and real nappy use across the North East of Scotland; running two community composting projects in partnership with the local authorities for the benefit of local householders; and the development and management of a community reuse project – the Creative Waste Exchange.

CFINE aims to improve health and well being and contribute to regeneration in disadvantaged and excluded geographical and interest communities by promoting the consumption of fruit, veg, pulses and other healthy products and encouraging and supporting volunteering which brings a range of personal, family and community benefits. The particular activities employed to support the above are Community Food Outlets, FareShare and the Fast Fruit Scheme (nurseries, schools, voluntary organisations, social enterprises). “the bread maker” trades as an artisan bakery and coffee house in the centre of Aberdeen offering meaningful training and work for adults with learning disabilities.
“the bread maker” runs as a viable business and provides a high standard in supported work which includes complementary therapies, work experience out with Rosemount and access to other training opportunities.
The 23 apprentices, 9 staff and 9 volunteers create a range of high quality breads, confectionery and sandwiches in a relaxed modern coffee house.
As a social firm the bread makers directors and staff focus both on the business and social aims of the organisation keeping both in the forefront of our aims and objectives.
